Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has confirmed that he will take an extended sabbatical from football once his time at the club comes to an end.
Guardiola, who has enjoyed immense success since joining the Premier League giants in 2016, told GQ Spain that he is certain about stepping away from coaching after his spell at City. So far, the 54-year-old has won 18 trophies with the club, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.
His current contract, signed in November last year, runs until 2027.
“I know that after this stage with City I’m going to stop, that’s for sure,” Guardiola said.
“It’s decided, more than decided.
“I don’t know how long I’ll stop for, a year, two years, three years, five, ten, fifteen, I don’t know.
“But I will leave after this spell with City because I need to stop and focus on myself, on my body.”
The Spanish tactician has previously taken a year-long break after leaving Barcelona in 2012. His upcoming sabbatical suggests a potentially longer and more open-ended pause from football as he prioritizes his personal well-being after years at the top of the game.
