Liverpool Football Club has made a heartfelt commitment to support the family of Diogo Jota following his tragic death in a fatal car accident in Zamora, Spain, on July 3, 2025.
According to CREEBHILLS, Jota and his brother both lost their lives in the accident. The Portuguese forward, who had two years remaining on his Liverpool contract, was a vital part of the club before the tragedy struck.
In a compassionate move, Liverpool FC has pledged to honor the full value of his remaining contract — approximately £14.6 million — to provide financial support for his wife, Rute Cardoso, and their three children.
Beyond financial assistance, the club has also committed to providing ongoing emotional and legal support to the bereaved family, underscoring Liverpool’s dedication to caring for its players and their loved ones beyond the football pitch.
To honor his legacy, the club has retired Diogo Jota’s iconic number 20 shirt and announced plans to open a permanent memorial at Anfield in his memory.
