Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has delivered a blunt message to players who are unhappy at the club, urging them to leave Stamford Bridge if they no longer wish to be part of the team.
The Italian tactician made the remark following Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Palmeiras in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup, addressing speculations surrounding Arsenal’s interest in winger Noni Madueke.
“Noni [Madueke] has been very important for us,” Maresca told reporters after the match.
He added:
“But my message to the players and to the club is that I want just players that are happy to be with us.
The ones that aren’t happy, they’re free to go.”
Maresca, who took over from Mauricio Pochettino after a successful stint at Leicester City, has emphasized the importance of unity and commitment in his rebuilding efforts at Chelsea.
The Blues will face Brazilian side Fluminense in the semi-final of the Club World Cup on Tuesday as they continue their pursuit of international silverware.
