Controversial Nigerian singer Naira Marley has ignited a social media firestorm after launching a scathing tirade aimed at his critics, laced with strong religious overtones and biting mental health commentary.
In a post shared on his social platforms, the Marlian Music boss lashed out at those he claimed don’t believe in God, heaven, or hell, declaring that they would suffer not only in this life but also in death and the afterlife.
“Most of y’all don’t even believe in God, you don’t believe in heaven and hell issokay,” Marley began.
“Most of y’all will suffer before you die, suffer when you die, suffer in the grave, and suffer in the hereafter.”
Mental Health Jabs Spark Backlash
The singer didn’t stop there. He appeared to mock the mental health of his detractors, making references to ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) — two serious conditions affecting many Nigerians — before claiming mental illness is widespread across the country.
“Shey dem dey diagnose people for this Nigeria sha? Plenty people get ADHD and PTSD + mad people everywhere,” he added.
Mixed Reactions from Fans
The post has drawn intense reactions from the public, with some fans supporting Marley’s bluntness, while others accused him of being insensitive — especially regarding mental health and religious beliefs.
Critics have called on the singer to be more mindful of his platform and avoid making inflammatory statements that could further stigmatize mental illness or alienate segments of his audience.
Still Under Scrutiny
Naira Marley, whose real name is Azeez Fashola, remains a divisive figure in the Nigerian entertainment scene. He has faced public criticism in recent years, particularly following controversies linked to the tragic death of his former signee, Mohbad, and ongoing investigations surrounding his music label.
