Drama as Senate Bars Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan From Entering National Assembly

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sexual Harassment Petition Against Akpabio

There was high drama and chaos at the entrance of the National Assembly complex in Abuja on Tuesday as security operatives denied suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, access to the premises.

Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived at the complex accompanied by popular activist Aisha Yesufu, rights campaigner Mama P, activist Randy, and a throng of supporters—only to be met with a firm blockade by stern-looking security personnel.

The situation became tense as Yesufu confronted the officers manning the gate, questioning the legitimacy of the order used to bar Natasha’s entry.

National Assembly is meant to be for everyone. Why are you stopping us? We are not abiding doesn’t mean we are cowards,” Yesufu declared passionately.

As the standoff escalated, Natasha’s supporters began chanting “Push!”, urging one another to break through the human barrier. Videos from the scene showed the crowd surging forward in defiance, while singing solidarity songs in support of the embattled senator.

Despite the tension, security operatives stood their ground, preventing any forced entry into the complex.

This confrontation comes a day after Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan announced her intention to resume legislative duties following a court ruling she claims invalidated her suspension. The Senate leadership, however, has insisted that her suspension remains in force until it officially expires, citing no binding legal directive to reinstate her.

The face-off marks a new chapter in the senator’s standoff with the Senate, and raises pressing questions about legislative authority, due process, and citizens’ access to democratic institutions.
