On Friday, July 18, the attorney representing the woman who accused former NFL star and media personality Shannon Sharpe of sexual assault announced that both parties have settled, effectively bringing the case to a close.
Tony Buzbee, the lawyer for the 20-year-old plaintiff, shared the update via Instagram, confirming that the lawsuit—originally filed in April seeking $50 million in damages—will be dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled.
He noted that despite a rocky but consensual long-term relationship between the two, all matters have now been “addressed satisfactorily.”
Although specific terms of the settlement remain confidential, NBC reports that Sharpe is expected to pay close to $10 million as part of the resolution.
The lawsuit had accused Sharpe of sexual battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress, claims that sparked public debate and scrutiny across social media.
Since news of the settlement broke, reactions have poured in online, with many Instagram users expressing mixed emotions—some criticizing both parties, others calling it a “money grab,” and some urging Sharpe to make better personal choices going forward.
Despite the settlement, the case has undeniably impacted Sharpe’s public image. For now, both sides appear ready to move on.
