The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Thursday, July 11, 2025, upheld the election of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the Governor of Edo State, putting an end to the legal challenge filed by Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The apex court dismissed Ighodalo’s appeal for lacking merit, affirming the earlier decisions of both the Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal, which had also ruled in favor of Okpebholo.
With this ruling, Monday Okpebholo, who ran under the All Progressives Congress (APC), retains his seat as the duly elected governor of Edo State following the 2024 gubernatorial election.
