President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran journalist Dr. Leon Usigbe, who served as the State House correspondent for The Tribune newspapers until his death.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Usigbe as a distinguished journalist renowned for his professionalism, balanced reporting, and strong ethical values.
“Dr. Usigbe was a veteran correspondent and professional whose dedication to truth, balance, and ethical journalism earned him the respect of colleagues, public officials, and readers nationwide,” Tinubu said.
The President commended Usigbe’s insightful coverage of presidential affairs, highlighting how his integrity and calm demeanor played a vital role in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic governance and keeping the public informed about the presidency.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues at The Tribune, and the entire State House Press Corps,” Tinubu said. “May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and comfort all who mourn this great loss.”
Dr. Usigbe, who held a doctorate degree in Communication, was highly respected among his peers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He previously worked with Champion newspapers and also served as Chairman of the State House Press Corps.
