President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to host the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s victorious women’s football team, at the State House in Abuja on Monday, following their triumphant win at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The team, along with officials, is expected to arrive in Nigeria from Morocco late Sunday night, following their 3-2 victory over the host nation Morocco in a dramatic comeback final.
It is anticipated that the Super Falcons will be rewarded generously by the President for their outstanding performance, which secured Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title, further cementing their legacy as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
Recall that President Tinubu had approved the payment of the team’s outstanding bonuses and allowances on the eve of Saturday’s final, a move widely praised as a morale booster for the squad ahead of the historic clash with the Atlas Lionesses.
The Super Falcons stunned the home crowd by rallying from two goals down to seal a thrilling 3-2 victory — a testament to their resilience, unity, and championship pedigree.
Monday’s reception is expected to feature commendations, presidential remarks, and possible national honours or cash rewards for players and team officials.
