Nigerian celebrity entrepreneur and hair guru Chioma Ikokwu, popularly known as Chioma Good Hair, has addressed societal pressure around marriage, delivering a powerful message of self-awareness, independence, and timing.
In a series of posts shared on Snapchat, Chioma responded to a fan who encouraged her to consider marriage soon. While acknowledging the good intentions behind the message, she firmly rejected the notion of rushing into marriage due to societal expectations.
“I know you mean well, but I don’t like messages like this, Rama. Don’t put pressure on me, please. It’s too late, lol. With all the technology in the world, stop it! Plus, I’m in my 30s, I’ve got time! We are not in 1885 anymore,” she wrote.
Chioma made it clear that her current relationship status is not a result of circumstance but a deliberate decision.
“I promise you that I’m not married right now. It’s not by circumstance. It’s by choice. I’m not going to settle because everyone’s walking down the aisle, and some are getting divorced six months later. Please, God’s timing is everything. I’ll do it right.”
In a follow-up post, Chioma reflected on her personal growth and journey, revealing that she wouldn’t have been ready for marriage before 30.
“Tbh, anyone that would’ve married me before 30 would’ve cried because I truly wasn’t ready. I still wanted to travel the world, grow in my career and be free. Am I satisfied now – yes! Am I ready now? Yes! Am I desperate – absolutely if not!”
She concluded by embracing the fact that people mature and pursue marriage at different paces.
“Some people have been ready since they were 16 years old — that’s all good. That wasn’t me.”
Chioma Good Hair, known not only for her beauty and luxury hair brand but also for her intelligence and confidence, has once again sparked meaningful conversation on women’s autonomy, self-worth, and the importance of timing over social conformity.
