The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has revealed that he and members of his management team are facing threats from certain individuals opposed to ongoing reforms in the oil and gas sector.
Ojulari, speaking on Thursday at the NNPCL headquarters in Abuja while hosting a delegation from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) led by its president, Festus Osifo, said his “offence” was tied to the sweeping changes introduced under President Bola Tinubu’s directive to revive the country’s ailing refineries.
He disclosed that while powerful forces are working against him and allegedly seeking his removal, the NNPCL remains committed to restoring the refineries to full operations. Part of the strategy, according to him, involves adopting the successful Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) model as a blueprint for refinery revival.
Despite acknowledging the risks, Ojulari reaffirmed his commitment to delivering results, stressing that his focus is on development rather than politics.
He said:
“I’m not hiding to anybody. I’m not a politician. I will have to learn a bit more about politics, but it’s a development plan for me, right? And I’m ready to learn.”
