Nollywood actress Patience Umeh has shed light on why her colleague, Chioma Akpotha, often avoids kissing and romantic roles in movies.
Speaking on the “Where Is The Lie” podcast, Patience revealed that Chioma’s conservative Catholic upbringing had a significant influence on her career choices.
“Chioma Chukwuka was brought up in a very Catholic home. She doesn’t accept kissing or romantic roles in movies. I’m saying this out of experience. She was a legionary. She has been a good girl,” Patience said.
However, her claim appears to be contradicted by Chioma’s recent performance in the blockbuster Seven Doors, where she shared an onscreen kiss with actor Femi Adebayo.
Born on March 12, 1980, in Lagos State, Chioma hails from Oraifite in Anambra State. She studied Banking and Finance at Lagos State University before venturing into Nollywood in 2000 with the movie The Apple.
Over the years, she has featured in more than 350 movies, earning critical acclaim and multiple awards, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2007 for Sins of the Flesh.
At the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), she once again proved her versatility, winning Best Lead Actress for her role in Seven Doors.
Despite her fame, Chioma is known for keeping her private life away from public attention. Although she was married, she has deliberately kept details about her family out of the spotlight, choosing instead to focus on her acting career.
