Dr. Doyin Abiola, respected journalist and wife of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, has passed away.
According to sources, she died on August 5, 2025, at the age of 82, following a brief illness.
Dr. Abiola made history as the first Nigerian woman to become editor-in-chief of a national daily newspaper. She began her journalism career in 1969 with the Daily Sketch, where she gained public attention through her impactful column “Tiro,” which focused on social and gender-related issues.
Her legacy also includes serving for over thirty years as the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of National Concord, where she played a key role in shaping the Nigerian media space and championing women’s rights.
Dr. Doyin Abiola’s death marks the end of a remarkable era in Nigerian journalism and public service.
