Chelsea secured a 2-0 win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, but the result was overshadowed by a series of controversial refereeing calls that left Fulham manager Marco Silva fuming.
Fulham thought they had struck first when youngster Josh King found the back of the net, but VAR ruled the goal out after Rodrigo Muniz was deemed to have stamped on Trevoh Chalobah in the buildup.
The setback was compounded in stoppage time of the first half. Chelsea took the lead in the ninth added minute—one beyond the original allocation—when Joao Pedro rose to head home from a corner. Silva was visibly frustrated and confronted referee Rob Jones over the extra time.
The controversies continued in the second half when VAR intervened again, awarding Chelsea a penalty for handball against Ryan Sessegnon. Enzo Fernandez stepped up and converted, doubling the Blues’ advantage.
Despite Fulham’s attempts to claw their way back into the game, they were unable to break Chelsea down and left Stamford Bridge empty-handed.
