The head of Premier League referees, Howard Webb, has hinted that the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology could be extended to cover yellow cards and corner kicks.
His comments come as the International Football Association Board (IFAB), football’s law-making body, continues its review of VAR.
Currently, VAR is only used to review goals, straight red cards, penalties, and cases of mistaken identity.
Webb told BBC Sport:
“If you are talking about yellow cards that are delivered incorrectly which could be impactful on the game, then you also have to think about wrongly not-issued yellow cards.
“I understand the impact of a wrongly awarded corner that’s clearly wrong – easy to see on video – and the impact of a wrongly issued yellow card.”
He added that consultations will also take place “with the English game as well.”
