Fernandes’ Last-Minute Penalty Seals First Premier League Win for Manchester United

Manchester United finally registered their first Premier League victory of the season with a thrilling 3-2 win over Burnley at Old Trafford, thanks to a stoppage-time penalty from captain Bruno Fernandes.

United, desperate for a response after a shaky start to the campaign, went ahead in the 29th minute when Casemiro’s header from a Fernandes free-kick deflected off Josh Cullen and crossed the line despite Martin Dubravka’s best efforts.

Burnley struck back after the break, with Lyle Foster converting Jens Larsen’s cross to level the score. But United regained their advantage almost immediately as Diogo Dalot teed up Bryan Mbeumo for a tidy close-range finish.

The visitors refused to back down, and substitute Jaidon Anthony equalised again when his strike deflected off Kobbie Mainoo and wrong-footed Altay Bayindir.

With the game heading for a draw, VAR awarded United a penalty in stoppage time after Antony was adjudged to have pulled Amad Diallo’s shirt. Fernandes, who missed from the spot last week, stepped up in the 97th minute and coolly slotted home to secure all three points.

The dramatic win lifts some pressure off manager Ruben Amorim, whose side had been reeling from a string of poor results, including their Carabao Cup exit earlier in the week.
