I’m just two years older than my husband – Actress Blessing Obasi

Nollywood actress Blessing Obasi has reflected on her rise from relative obscurity to red carpet royalty, opening up in a candid new interview about her early struggles, public rejection, and how love and faith in her craft changed her story.

Known for her compelling performances and celebrated marriage to actor Stan Nze, Blessing Obasi revealed how one particularly humiliating experience at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) left a lasting emotional impact.

“My earlier red-carpet moments were not great. When you are not really popular, the red carpet treats you like a nobody,” she shared.

She recalled attending the AMVCA years ago with Stan, who was already receiving more public attention. Despite walking in hand-in-hand, she was asked to “kindly step aside” so photographers could focus on him.

“He would try to bring me into the frame, but after one shot, they would still ask me to step aside. Other entertainers were coming in for interviews, and I kept getting pushed aside.”

Blessing Obasi credits filmmaker Biodun Stephen for stepping in during that tough moment.

“She saw what was happening, pulled me aside, and consoled me. She had witnessed it all.”

Today, things have changed dramatically for the actress.

“Now on the red carpet, na them dey rush me! I am just grateful to God and to the two people who took a chance on me — Biodun Stephen and Niyi Akinmolayan,” she said proudly.

On the subject of love and marriage, Blessing Obasi, who is two years older than her husband, addressed the online chatter around their age difference.

“There is no age difference in marriage. We are married, so we are one. The age gap was never even a topic of discussion when we were dating. I honour my husband as my priest and father figure. All that talk about age is just noise.”

Speaking further on their peaceful union, Blessing Obasi praised Stan’s calm nature and shared passion for storytelling.

“My husband is a peaceful man. We don’t clash a lot. He’s incredibly creative and has an eye for good stories. We mostly have conversations, not confrontations.”
