Lagos NLC Demands N150,000 Minimum Wage for Workers

NLC

The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to raise the state’s minimum wage to N150,000, citing the rising cost of living and recent wage increases in Imo and Ebonyi states.

Chairperson of the Lagos NLC, Funmi Sesi, made the demand on Thursday, noting that workers in the state currently earn N85,000 as minimum wage, an amount she described as inadequate considering the high cost of accommodation, transportation, feeding, and utilities in Lagos.

“The time has come for an upward review of minimum wage in Lagos. At least someone has taken the bull by the horns and opened the space,” she said.

Sesi stressed that Lagos workers deserve better pay and improved working conditions, urging the Sanwo-Olu administration to act in line with economic realities. She also expressed confidence that other states would follow suit.
