Manchester United remain without a Premier League win this season after being held 1-1 by Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
Ruben Amorim’s side were left frustrated as Bruno Fernandes missed a first-half penalty before Rodrigo Muniz’s own-goal gave United a second-half lead. But substitute Emile Smith Rowe struck late on to earn Fulham a deserved point.
United’s £200 million forward line of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko is still searching for its spark, with Sesko again left on the bench. Amorim is desperate to avoid a repeat of last season’s disastrous 15th-place finish, but two games into the new campaign his side are still winless.
United’s penalty came after a VAR review for Calvin Bassey’s grappling on Mason Mount, but Fernandes blazed the spot-kick over. Their opener eventually arrived when Leny Yoro’s header deflected off Muniz into the net on the hour mark.
Fulham, however, were angered that VAR did not intervene for what they felt was a foul on Bassey in the build-up. They responded through Smith Rowe, who ghosted into the box to turn home Alex Iwobi’s cross with 17 minutes left.
The result means United have taken just one point from their opening two fixtures, while Fulham can feel satisfied after back-to-back draws against top opposition.
