Tennis legend Serena Williams is opening up about her post-pregnancy weight loss journey, and her honesty is sparking a massive online reaction.
In a recent interview on the Today Show, Serena revealed that she turned to a GLP-1 medication — a class of drugs commonly linked to weight loss, such as Ozempic and Mounjaro. While she didn’t mention the exact brand, the 23-time Grand Slam champion shared that she has lost 31 pounds over the past year thanks to the treatment.
Serena admitted that even as a professional athlete, traditional methods like dieting, walking for hours, and even returning to competitive-level training just weren’t helping her shed the weight after having her two daughters.
“As a woman, you go through different cycles in your life. No matter what I did — running, walking, I would walk for hours because they say that’s good. I literally was playing a professional sport — and I could never go back to where I needed to be for my health. Then, after my second kid, it just got harder. So then I was like, ‘OK, I have to try something different,’” Serena explained.
Following the revelation, the comment section lit up with mixed reactions. While some criticized the idea of a world-class athlete needing weight-loss medication, others praised her transparency and reminded people that weight struggles—especially after childbirth—look different for everyone.
One user, @styledbyzerquera, wrote: “Not y’all trying to tell a WORLD CLASS ATHLETE how to lose weight 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂!”
Another commenter, @spoiledrotten_since1193, added: “Telling Serena Williams to ‘workout’ is just absolutely INSANE. Wtf did y’all think she was doing beforehand? 😂”
Meanwhile, @jen_bunii applauded Serena’s openness, saying: “At least she was transparent about using GLP-1 unlike most celebrities who lie.”
Despite the debates, many fans agree that Serena looks healthy, confident, and inspiring as she embraces her new chapter.
