The United States government has revoked more than 6,000 student visas since January 2025, citing security and criminal concerns as the reasons.
According to officials from the US State Department, about 4,000 of the cancellations were linked to cases of assault, burglary, driving under the influence, and support for terrorism.
In addition, student visa and green card holders who openly support Palestinians or criticize Israel’s actions in the Gaza conflict now face the risk of deportation, with such views being classified as threats to US foreign policy.
The mass revocations come shortly after the US Embassy issued warnings to immigrant students, outlining situations that could trigger visa cancellation.
This policy shift is in line with tougher immigration measures rolled out under the Trump administration, which include enhanced social media vetting for visa applicants and stricter compliance checks.
