Teyana Taylor found in contempt of court over divorce judgment

Teyana Taylor

Teyana Taylor has been ordered to pay her ex-husband, former NBA player Iman Shumpert, $70,000 after being found in contempt of court. The pair, married from 2016 to 2023, had accused each other of violating the terms of their 2024 divorce judgment.

According to Us Weekly, both attended a hearing on 25 July to present testimony, with the judge delivering a final verdict on 5 August. The court ruled that Teyana Taylor willfully breached the divorce agreement by sharing its details in an Instagram video posted in March.

“The court finds (Taylor) in violation of the Final Judgment and Decree of Divorce and is in willful contempt,” the documents stated.

The 34-year-old singer and actress was ordered to cover Shumpert’s $70,000 legal fees within two weeks. The judge also rejected Taylor’s request to have Shumpert held in contempt, stating she had failed to “present sufficient evidence” that he leaked information about their divorce.

“It appears Taylor and her counsel failed to engage in even a minimal amount of diligence to determine whether her claim of contempt had any factual support at all before the petition was filed,” the order read.

Additionally, Shumpert’s separate claim that Taylor violated their parenting plan was denied due to lack of proof of “willful contempt.”

Teyana Taylor and Shumpert share two daughters — Junie, nine, and Rue, four. She is currently dating Rebel Ridge actor Aaron Pierre.
