Former Big Brother Mzansi Season 5 contestant Ashley Ogle has finally broken her silence on her highly publicized romance with Sweet Guluva, the season’s eventual winner.
The pair’s relationship was one of the most talked-about storylines of the Umlilo Edition, with many fans rooting for a fairy-tale ending. But in a candid sit-down with Lasizwe Dambuza on Drink or Tell the Truth, which aired on Thursday, September 11, 2025, Ashley revealed that their love story ended in heartbreak.
“I’m going to just say that Sweet Guluva broke up with me. The man, I didn’t break up with him. So obviously, I was forced to like go with it,” Ashley said, confirming that the breakup was not her choice.
According to her, the split happened just over a month ago, and she still struggles to reconcile the difference between Sweet Guluva, the TV personality loved by fans, and Akhonamathemba Mbele-Zwane, the man behind the persona.
“You see, I think that I’m a fan of Sweet Guluva, and I was in love with Sweet Guluva. I’ll still say I am in love with Sweet Guluva, and I like Sweet Guluva. I don’t particularly like Akhonamathemba, but I loved Akhonamathemba, and I still am in love with Akhonamathemba,” she explained.
Ashley admitted that the reason given for the breakup was vague, with Sweet Guluva citing “work” as part of his explanation. Looking back, she feels he never had long-term plans for her.
“Basically, to me it seemed as if Akhonamathemba never had plans for Ashley Ogle; it was just Sweet Guluva who had the plans for Ashley Ogle,” she said.
Her revelation has given fans a rare glimpse into the challenges of dating in the public eye — where love for the star doesn’t always translate into love for the person behind the spotlight.
