Veteran Nollywood actress Clarion Chukwurah has expressed concern over the damaging effects of social media, describing it as a tool that has been turned into a platform for lies and blackmail in Nigeria.
In a post shared on Instagram, the actress said she is baffled at how online spaces have become acceptable outlets to misinform, witch-hunt, broadcast falsehood, and wish others evil.
She suggested that much of the negativity stems from bitterness, questioning whether those behind the attacks are simply unhappy with their own lives.
“I never cease to wonder how it became so bad in Nigeria that online media has become an acceptable platform to misinform, witch hunt, blackmail, broadcast outright lies, and just wish evil on others. Is it because some of these news content providers and their sources are so miserable, and they cannot bear the thought that others are happy and doing great in their own space?”
Addressing those spreading falsehoods about her, Chukwurah emphasized that her success is not by personal strength but by the grace of God.
Quoting passages from the Bible, she affirmed her security in Christ and declared that no one can curse whom God has blessed.
“To the unfortunate specimens out there peddling falsehood about me, I have come this far not by my own power because I have no power of my own, but by the Word of the Lord. In Jesus Christ, I am secured and remain strong.”
The actress ended her message with a note of encouragement to her followers, wishing them a wonderful weekend while affirming her faith: “Jesus Christ is Lord.”
