FG Arraigns Sowore Over Alleged Cyber Bullying, False Claims Against Tinubu

Sowore Rejects 2027 Opposition Coalition, Labels Members as "Looters"

The Federal Government on Tuesday arraigned human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Sowore is facing a five-count charge bordering on alleged cyberbullying, cyber stalking, and making false claims against President Bola Tinubu.

Court filings also listed Meta Platforms Inc. and X Corp. as co-defendants in the case.

According to the charge sheet, Sowore, on August 25, allegedly used his verified X handle to post:

“This criminal @officialABAT actually went to Brazil to state that there is no more corruption under his regime in Nigeria. What audacity to lie shamelessly!”

Prosecutors argued that the post contravened Section 24(2)(b) of the Cybercrimes Prohibition and Prevention Act, 2024, claiming it was intended to cause public disorder and discredit the presidency.

The Federal Government further alleged that Meta and X failed to moderate or remove the post despite its “harmful” nature.

Sowore, who appeared in court on Tuesday, is standing trial alongside the two tech giants.
