Erling Haaland was once again the star of the show as Manchester City cruised to a 3-0 victory over rivals Manchester United in Sunday’s Premier League derby at the Etihad Stadium.
Phil Foden opened the scoring early on, heading home after brilliant wing play from Jeremy Doku carved through United’s defence. The academy graduate’s finish gave City a deserved lead as they dominated possession and kept United on the back foot.
In the second half, Haaland doubled City’s advantage, showing his trademark composure in front of goal. The Norwegian striker later added his second of the game to seal the emphatic win for Pep Guardiola’s men.
Before kick-off, both teams observed a minute’s applause in honour of Ricky Hatton, the former world champion boxer and lifelong Manchester City fan, who was found dead earlier in the day at the age of 46.
The result piles more pressure on United boss Ruben Amorim, whose side have carried their poor form into the new season. United sit 14th on the table, with just one win in their last four league outings.
Up next, United face a tough test as they host Chelsea at Old Trafford next weekend, while City continue their title push at the top of the Premier League.
