The National Assembly has stopped Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from resuming her duties in the Red Chamber despite her claim that her six-month suspension had elapsed.
On September 4, 2025, the lawmaker representing Kogi Central wrote to the leadership of the Assembly, notifying them of her intention to return.
However, in a response signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, she was informed that her suspension remained in force pending a decision from the Court of Appeal.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension, which began on March 6, 2025, followed a clash with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements during plenary.
She had earlier challenged the suspension in court, but the Federal High Court ruled in favour of the Senate, leading her to seek redress at the appellate court.
The Assembly explained that no administrative action can be taken until the judicial process is fully concluded.
“The matter remains subjudice, and until the judicial process is concluded and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken to facilitate your resumption,” the letter read.
The National Assembly assured the senator that she would be duly notified of the Senate’s final position once the case is resolved.
