West Ham United have appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager following the dismissal of Graham Potter, who leaves after a dismal start to the Premier League season.
Potter, 50, departs with the Hammers sitting second-bottom of the table, having lost four of their opening five matches. His exit marks the club’s third managerial change within a year, after the departures of Julen Lopetegui and David Moyes.
Nuno, 51, arrives just two weeks after being sacked by Nottingham Forest, where he oversaw only three games this season. The former Wolves and Tottenham boss will take charge of his first game when West Ham face Everton on Monday, coming up against ex-boss Moyes.
A club statement read:
“Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations, and the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.”
Potter’s departure also sees the exit of his entire backroom staff, including assistant Bruno Saltor, coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, and goalkeeper coaches Casper Ankergren and Linus Kandolin. Recruitment chief Kyle Macaulay, a long-time ally of Potter, will remain in his role.
Nuno’s appointment follows reports of strained relations at Nottingham Forest, where clashes with the hierarchy and a poor run of form contributed to his swift exit.
