Rooney Calls Man United’s Derby Defeat a “Watershed Moment” as Fans Exit Early

Wayne Rooney has labelled Manchester United’s 3-0 derby defeat to Manchester City a turning point, after witnessing travelling fans leave the Etihad Stadium before the final whistle.

Goals from Phil Foden and a brace from Erling Haaland sealed a comfortable win for City, leaving United in 14th place with just four points from their opening four Premier League games.

Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, the club’s former captain highlighted the significance of the fans’ reaction:

“There was an image towards the end of the game where I was seeing the Man Utd fans leaving. I’ve never seen that. In my time, I’ve never seen Man United fans leaving.”

Rooney added that while some supporters were chanting for manager Ruben Amorim, many walked out in frustration:

“I think it is so powerful that the fans were leaving because they knew the game was over and were disappointed in what they’d seen.”

The emptying away stands reflected growing discontent with Amorim, who has faced criticism over United’s lack of aggression and defensive organisation. With two defeats and one draw from his first four league matches, pressure is mounting as United prepare to host Chelsea on Saturday.
