The Super Eagles of Nigeria grabbed a vital 1–0 win over Rwanda on Saturday to keep their hopes alive in the race to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The breakthrough came in the 51st minute, when Tolu Arokodare pounced on a loose ball inside the box and calmly slotted past Rwanda’s goalkeeper to hand Nigeria the crucial lead.
The opening half had ended goalless, with both teams adopting a cautious approach. Nigeria’s backline, led by Calvin Bassey, stood resolute as Rwanda attempted tactical adjustments in the second half.
There was, however, a scare for Nigeria after Victor Osimhen limped off in the first half, forcing coach Finidi George to bring in Cyril Dessers. Despite the setback, the Super Eagles continued to press forward and held on for the win.
With this result, Nigeria now sits on 10 points from seven matches in Group C, while Rwanda remains on 8 points, making the qualification race even more intense.
