The United States has issued a warning that corrupt Nigerian government officials could face visa restrictions.
In a statement shared on its official X handle on Monday, the US Mission in Nigeria emphasized that accountability applies everywhere, regardless of status.
“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving US Visas,” the Mission said.
According to CREEBHILLS, Washington has consistently reiterated its support for Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts. In previous years, the US imposed visa bans on politicians accused of undermining democratic processes and electoral integrity.
This latest caution comes amid growing concerns by transparency advocates over alleged mismanagement of public funds and abuse of office at various levels of government in Nigeria.
The US government maintains that restricting entry for corrupt officials aligns with its wider policy of promoting good governance, accountability, and respect for the rule of law in partner nations.
