American singer Chris Brown has provided a detailed account of the 2020 incident in which a housekeeper was allegedly mauled by one of his dogs at his Los Angeles home.
Brown’s testimony comes as part of a new court filing in which he asks a judge to dismiss claims of intentional infliction of emotional distress and punitive damages from the lawsuit filed by the alleged victim, Maria Avila.
Avila’s lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, claims she was viciously attacked by one of Chris Brown’s security dogs while collecting rubbish at the singer’s property on December 12, 2020.
According to her, the large brown dog pounced on her without warning, biting her multiple times as she screamed for help. She further alleges that Brown came outside during the ordeal, stood over her while talking on his phone, and then left her bleeding on the driveway.
Avila says she required emergency surgery and now suffers from permanent disfigurement, nerve damage, and partial loss of vision.
However, Chris Brown’s sworn deposition sharply contradicts her account. The Under the Influence singer insists he neither ignored Avila’s cries nor fled the scene, adding that he did not see any blood or signs of severe injury at the time.
“I didn’t touch her. I bent down and I looked. I was making sure she was breathing, and then from there, I ran and put the dogs away and yelled and told the security guard to come over,” Brown testified under oath.
The Grammy-winning artist said he only left the premises after his manager advised him to do so once paramedics had been called.
The court is expected to review Brown’s motion in the coming weeks as the civil case continues to unfold.
