Nollywood filmmaker and actor Daniel Etim-Effiong has opened up about how he approaches romantic scenes on set, revealing that he prays before performing any kissing scene to stay grounded in his faith and values.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds, the actor shared how his spirituality influences his craft, especially when portraying emotionally intense or romantic characters.
“Before I go on set for a scene that involves kissing, I pray. I ask for grace to handle it well. My family grounds me, and my work is my calling,” Etim-Effiong said.
The Glamour Girls actor, who left a promising engineering career to pursue acting, described his profession as a divine calling. “Acting allows me to tell stories that inspire people. For me, that’s a form of worship,” he noted.
Etim-Effiong also addressed the frequent appearance of kissing scenes in Nollywood movies, explaining that such moments often reflect audience demand. According to him, producers include them because they attract attention and increase viewer engagement.
“People think I do too many of them, but the real question should be for the producers. Why express affection in only one way when there are several others? Regardless, I stay focused and don’t let criticism distract me. I just concentrate on my work,” he added.
Despite the occasional backlash over his romantic roles, Etim-Effiong maintains that his faith and family help him strike a balance between professionalism and personal conviction — a discipline he believes keeps his performances authentic and purposeful.
