The nominated Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Amupitan, has proposed the use of drones to enhance election monitoring and improve logistics during polls.
Amupitan made the suggestion on Thursday while responding to a question from Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who expressed concern about the security challenges affecting the safe transportation of sensitive election materials.
In his response, the INEC chairman-designate assured that the commission would prioritize logistics investment to procure advanced devices — including drones — to track and secure the movement of electoral materials.
“The issue of security is a major challenge, but at the same time, it can be tackled,” Amupitan said.
“We will work closely with the joint committee on election security to address threats in vulnerable areas. We can also invest more in logistics to ensure that we can penetrate every part of Nigeria — even if we have to use drones — to make sure materials get to where they ought to.”
The proposal underscores INEC’s renewed focus on technology-driven election management aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and safety across Nigeria’s electoral process.
