Former Spain international defender Jordi Alba Joins Messi and Busquets at Inter Miami

Spanish football legend Jordi Alba, who currently plays for Inter Miami CF, has officially announced his retirement from professional football. The veteran left-back’s decision comes just a week after his former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets also called time on his career.

Alba’s announcement surprised many fans, especially since he had recently signed a contract extension with Inter Miami that would have kept him at the club through the 2027 season.

Before concluding his remarkable journey in Major League Soccer with the Herons, Alba enjoyed an illustrious career that spanned over 700 professional appearances across several top clubs, including FC Barcelona, Valencia CF, and Gimnàstic de Tarragona.

The 35-year-old joined Inter Miami in July 2023, reuniting with fellow Barcelona icons Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets. Together, they brought renewed global attention to MLS with their on-field chemistry and leadership.

Announcing his retirement via social media, Jordi Alba expressed gratitude and fulfillment for his football journey:

“The time has come to close a truly meaningful chapter in my life. I’ve decided to bring my professional football career to an end at the conclusion of this season.
I do so with complete conviction, peace, and happiness because I feel I’ve walked this path with every ounce of passion I had. And now it’s the right moment to open a new chapter and close the previous one with the best possible feeling.”

Throughout his career, Alba earned legendary status for his blistering pace, defensive consistency, and remarkable partnership with Lionel Messi. At Barcelona, he made 605 appearances across all competitions, scoring 37 goals and providing 107 assists.

His trophy cabinet includes the 2015 UEFA Champions League, six La Liga titles, five Copa del Rey trophies, and numerous other domestic and international honors.

On the international stage, Alba was equally impactful. He represented Spain 93 times, scoring 10 goals, and played a key role in the nation’s triumphs at Euro 2012 and the 2023 UEFA Nations League.

At Inter Miami, Alba continued to shine, helping the club secure the 2024 Supporters’ Shield and the Leagues Cup 2023, contributing 14 goals and 28 assists in 95 appearances across all competitions.

As he hangs up his boots, Jordi Alba leaves behind a legacy defined by excellence, teamwork, and an unwavering passion for the game — a true symbol of Spanish football greatness.
