Anambra-based clergyman, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has criticised prominent church leaders Pastor E.A. Adeboye and Bishop David Oyedepo for what he described as their “failure to speak out” on the current state of the nation.
In a viral video, the outspoken preacher lamented the deepening poverty, hunger, and economic hardship across Nigeria, saying that senior figures in the Christian faith have remained silent despite the suffering of citizens.
Odumeje recalled how, during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, many of these religious leaders boldly criticised government policies — a level of outspokenness he claims has since disappeared.
“The worst government now is Nigeria,” he declared. “See where Ghana is insulting Nigerians. Even Ghana’s currency is stronger now than the naira. We used to mock Ghana’s money, but today, their currency can be compared to the dollar.
“See Adeboye during Goodluck Jonathan’s time complaining that fuel price was high. Now, things are worse, yet nobody is talking. Prices rise every day, and everyone acts like it’s normal.”
Odumeje insisted that faith leaders like Pastor Adeboye and Bishop Oyedepo have a moral duty to speak against bad governance and the suffering of the people.
“These are people that are supposed to be talking about bad government. Adeboye and Oyedepo should carry it strongly,” he stated.
He further urged Nigerian youths to take responsibility for the future of the country, calling on them to “rise up and take back their nation from the businessmen posing as politicians.”
