Married at First Sight South Africa Season 2 may have come to an emotional close, but one cast member who continues to capture viewers’ attention is Portia Baloyi.
Her journey — from marrying a complete stranger to facing heartbreak and ultimately rediscovering herself — remains one of the standout stories of the Showmax reality series.
The hit show followed four couples who met for the first time at the altar, hoping to find love through an unconventional experiment.
Among them were Portia Baloyi and Bongani Luvalo, whose relationship was marked by both tender moments and difficult lessons. While their marriage didn’t last, Portia says she has no regrets because the experience helped her grow into a stronger version of herself.
Reflecting on her time on the show, Portia shared:
“It’s been a rollercoaster, to be honest. Coming into this, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy but I didn’t expect it to be this intense. You’re marrying a complete stranger and figuring each other out in front of the whole country. There’ve been amazing moments, but also real challenges. It’s stretched me emotionally and spiritually, but I’ve also grown so much.”
Through the ups and downs, the reality star says she discovered valuable lessons about communication, patience, and emotional maturity.
“I’ve learned that I can communicate better when I give myself space to breathe first, instead of reacting. So yeah, a lot of personal growth,” she added.
As the season wrapped up, fans eagerly awaited the reunion special hosted by Relebogile Mabotja, where Portia admitted to having mixed emotions.
“Eish… mixed emotions, hey. I was nervous but also curious to see everyone again. I’m proud of myself for showing up fully and being true to who I am. I didn’t hold back and that’s something I’ll always stand by.”
After filming ended, Portia revealed that she and Bongani continued to communicate privately, though their future remains uncertain.
“We’re still figuring things out, to be honest. It hasn’t been easy but we’ve had some real conversations since filming ended. We’re not where we were on decision day, that’s for sure.”
Watching her journey play out on TV was another learning experience for her.
“Yo, that part was wild! Watching yourself back while people comment online? It’s hectic. I cringed a few times, but also had moments where I thought, ‘You know what, Portia, you handled that well.’ It gave me perspective and helped me see how I come across to others.”
Since confirming her divorce, Portia says she’s now focused on healing, peace, and purpose.
“At this point, both of us are focused on healing and moving forward individually. What the future holds, only God knows, but my priority right now is peace, growth, and rebuilding myself from a place of strength and grace.”
Looking ahead, Portia is ready to embrace a new chapter defined by faith, self-discovery, and personal growth.
“I’m stepping into a new chapter centred on purpose, faith, and self-discovery. I want to focus on my work, my passions, and the things that truly feed my soul. I’ve been through so much, and now it’s about rebuilding and realigning with the woman I’m becoming.”
Before signing off, she left fans with a powerful message about love, accountability, and healing:
“I take full accountability for my part in everything that’s happened. I’ve learned, I’ve grown, and I hold no bitterness. My truth is that I loved deeply, I tried, and now I’m choosing peace over pain.”
