Sean Dyche Named Nottingham Forest Head Coach After Ange Postecoglou’s Shock Exit

Everton sack coach Sean Dyche

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Sean Dyche as their new head coach on a contract running until 2027, just days after sacking Ange Postecoglou.

The 54-year-old former Burnley and Everton manager returns to the City Ground, where he once trained under legendary boss Brian Clough, marking his first managerial job since leaving Everton earlier this year.

Dyche becomes Forest’s third manager of the season, inheriting a side struggling in the Premier League relegation zone with only five points from eight games — despite over £100 million ($134 million) spent during the transfer window.

“Sean Dyche is a respected and experienced Premier League manager who brings the perfect blend of character, tactical acumen, and proven achievement to guide the club through its next chapter,” Nottingham Forest said in an official statement.

His first task will be Thursday’s Europa League clash at home against Porto.

Dyche replaces Postecoglou, who was dismissed on Saturday — just minutes after Forest’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea — making him the shortest-serving permanent manager in Premier League history after just 40 days in charge.

Postecoglou’s dismissal followed a winless run of eight games. He had been appointed earlier this season following the departure of Nuno Espírito Santo, whose relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly broke down in September.
