Global superstar Taylor Swift joined Scott Mills on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on October 6 to discuss her forthcoming 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, offering rare insight into her relationship, wedding plans, and her famously private creative process.
The Kelce Connection
Taylor Swift reflected on how her relationship with fiancé Travis Kelce continues to thrive despite their different professions. “I love the person that I am with because he loves what I do and he loves how much I am fulfilled by making art and making music,” she shared.
She pointed out the striking similarities between their careers: “We both, as a living, as a job, as a passion, perform for three and a half hours in NFL stadiums.” The only real difference, she joked, is that her “dressing room” is his “locker room.” Swift praised Kelce’s enthusiasm and support, adding, “There’s no point in time where he’s gonna be like, ‘I’m really upset that you’re still making the music.’”
Wedding Plans on Hold
When asked about her wedding plans, Swift dispelled rumours of an elaborate production, explaining that her focus remains on the new album’s release. “I’m really right now just like really stoked about the idea that I get to marry this person,” she said. “And so I’m like, I’m gonna think about that and then I’m gonna put out this album and then I’m gonna think about other things after that.”
She also laughed off fan speculation that marriage might mark the end of her music career, calling such rumours “shockingly offensive.”
The Circle of Trust
Taylor Swift went on to share how secrecy plays a vital role in her creative process. She revealed that she kept The Life of a Showgirl completely under wraps from her record label until every element — music, artwork, and videos — was ready.
Her trusted friends helped her maintain the surprise: “My friends don’t rat. They do not rat. It is phenomenal. I’ve got a really good circle of friends.” Taylor Swift also confirmed she employs “all of it” — disguises and code names — to protect her projects and surprise her fans, who, in turn, take delight in deciphering her famous Easter eggs.
