Bafana Bafana head coach, Hugo Broos, has expressed full confidence in his team’s ability to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, insisting that South Africa deserves a spot after years of hard work and progress.
The national team assembled on Monday morning in Roodepoort, Johannesburg to begin preparations for their crucial World Cup qualifying matches this October.
South Africa will face Zimbabwe in an away qualifier at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban, on Friday, October 10, 2025, before hosting Rwanda at the Mbombela Stadium, Mpumalanga, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Both matches are set to kick off at 6:00 PM local time.
Speaking to SAFA.net, Broos said he has no doubts about his team’s readiness and determination.
“There are no doubts, there have never been any doubts from my side, and I will try to transfer this to the players at a meeting we will have on Tuesday,” he stated.
“I believe in this group and I am sure that they will do everything in their power to win that game on Friday. Why should we doubt ourselves now after our performances in the qualifiers? If there is a team that deserves to go to the World Cup, it is South Africa.”
Broos, who led Bafana Bafana to a strong showing in the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, said the upcoming qualifiers are a chance to crown their two-year effort with a long-awaited World Cup return.
