Reality TV star and singer Vee Iye has opened up about her childhood experience of being forced to stop using her left hand.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the former Big Brother Naija housemate revealed that her parents once cut her with a razor blade in an attempt to make her switch to her right hand.
She wrote:
“Growing up left handed got me into a lot of unnecessary arguments. Glad that nonsense is dying out.”
Her revelation quickly went viral, sparking widespread reactions from Nigerians who shared similar childhood experiences.
One user commented:
“I was beaten, had my palms cut by razor blade… they only had right-handed people in mind when building those classroom tables.”
Another added:
“My hands got beaten every day in school until I switched to my right hand. I even got into arguments at home for being left-handed.”
Many social media users lamented how left-handed children were stigmatized in the past, describing it as a cultural bias that wrongly associated left-handedness with bad behavior.
Vee Iye’s post has since reignited conversations about acceptance and respect for natural differences, with many praising her for speaking out on the issue.
