Popular Nigerian actor Williams Uchemba has called for public execution of kidnappers as a drastic measure to curb the growing wave of abductions across the country.
In a passionate statement shared online, the actor argued that failure to enforce strict punishments only encourages more people to engage in criminal activities. According to him, when kidnappers live lavishly or are freed without consequences, it sends a message that crime pays.
“We cannot continue to tolerate this. When crime goes unpunished, it only fuels more crime,” Williams stated.
He cited China as an example of a country that enforces its constitution effectively by punishing offenders without bias or hesitation.
Williams clarified that his stance had nothing to do with morality or religion but was about implementing strong laws to create a safer and more disciplined society.
The actor further emphasized the psychological trauma that kidnapping inflicts on victims, explaining that many never recover from the emotional damage even after their release.
“Kidnapping destroys lives. Some people may be freed, but mentally, they are never the same,” he added.
Williams’ comments come just days after singer Ruger also called for tougher measures to tackle kidnapping, especially with the festive season approaching — a period often marked by increased criminal activity.
“There should be a dedicated channel like BBNaija to showcase kidnappers getting £xêc*t€d for their crime. We must begin to apply the constitution like they do in China” – Actor Williams Uchemba blows hot pic.twitter.com/Oz8oBXc8nv

Currently, under Nigerian law, the death penalty for kidnapping applies only in cases where the victim dies during the crime.
