NUC Secretary celebrates son's graduation from UK University as ASUU strike continue

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned that it is prepared to resume its suspended nationwide strike if the Federal Government fails to meet its demands at the end of the ongoing one-month ultimatum.

ASUU Kano Zonal Coordinator, Abdulkadir Muhammad, issued the warning during a news conference held after the zone’s meeting on Tuesday.

The union had in October suspended its warning strike and gave the government a one-month ultimatum to address outstanding issues relating to lecturers’ welfare, funding for public universities, and a more conducive teaching and learning environment.

Muhammad expressed concern over what he described as the Federal Government’s sluggish approach to renegotiating critical agreements aimed at revitalising Nigeria’s public university system.

“However, our hope for a holistic and timely resolution of the issues is increasingly being dashed,” he said.

He further accused some government officials of deliberately slowing down the process and “employing different tactics to undermine the renegotiation and misinform the public on the state of our engagements.”

ASUU reiterated that unless meaningful progress is made before the ultimatum expires, the union will have no choice but to fully resume its industrial action.
