Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately declare a state of emergency over Nigeria’s worsening security crisis.
Atiku made the appeal in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday, while reacting to the latest abduction of students in Niger State. DAILY POST had earlier reported that terrorists stormed St. Mary Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, where they kidnapped more than 50 students and staff members.
Describing the incident as yet another tragic reminder of Nigeria’s fragile security landscape, Atiku questioned why the Tinubu administration has failed to take decisive and comprehensive action despite escalating attacks across the country.
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the ongoing situation has become unbearable and requires urgent national attention.
“Not again. This is truly heartbreaking,” Atiku wrote. “How many more lives must be shattered before decisive action is taken?
“It is not too late for the government to finally declare a state of emergency on insecurity and confront this menace with the urgency it deserves.”
Atiku’s call adds to the growing public outcry for stronger federal intervention as communities across several regions continue to grapple with kidnappings, banditry, and violent attacks.
