Chelsea midfielder Moisés Caicedo has opened up on why he opted to join the Blues instead of Arsenal during his highly publicised transfer from Brighton in 2023.
Despite strong interest from Mikel Arteta’s side, the Ecuadorian star chose Stamford Bridge—a decision that initially attracted criticism after he struggled in his first season. However, Caicedo has since found his rhythm under current manager Enzo Maresca, becoming a key part of the squad.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, Caicedo said his decision was rooted in Chelsea’s ambition and long-term vision.
“Everything happens for a reason,” he said. “I almost joined Arsenal, but now I’m here and I’m so happy. The timing was good.”
He added that he was patient because he knew Chelsea wanted him:
“I waited until Chelsea came for me. People laughed. They said I chose the wrong place, but sometimes you need time to adapt to a big team. I needed that.”
Caicedo expressed gratitude to the club for believing in him even during challenging moments:
“I want to give everything to this club because they didn’t doubt me. I chose Chelsea because they have ambitions. I want to win trophies—more trophies with this club.”
The 22-year-old is now focused on contributing to Chelsea’s resurgence as the team builds toward a competitive future.
