Fashion designer Prudent Gabriel has melted hearts online after gifting her mother a car as an umugwo appreciation gift.
In a video shared on Instagram on Friday, Prudent captured the emotional moment her mother received the surprise, expressing pure joy and gratitude. Praising her mother’s unwavering support from pregnancy through postpartum, she wrote:
“Omugwo Gift for my Mother. My mom made childbirth so easy and smooth for me. From pregnancy till postpartum, she was always there. She would carry Keon and tell me, ‘Go and sleep, go to work, I’ll take care of him.’ She follows me everywhere so I can be close to Keon. She keeps reminding me to eat well so I can express enough food for him because I told her I want to do Exclusive.
“Mommy, I love you and Daddy too! I know my daddy will drive even more now. Car from my favorite car plug @win.autos. Thank you so much for always delivering the best.”
Umugwo is a cherished Igbo tradition in which a new mother receives care and support — often from her mother — after childbirth. It typically involves help with baby care and domestic tasks, and it is customary for the family to show appreciation through gifts.
Prudent Gabriel welcomed her first child, Keon, earlier this year with her husband, gospel singer Peterson Okopi. In her post, she affectionately described how her mother ensured she got enough rest and proper meals while breastfeeding exclusively.
