Kendrick Lamar’s highly anticipated live-action comedy film, created in collaboration with South Park duo Matt Stone and Trey Parker, has been hit with yet another delay.
First announced in early 2022, the project was set to mark Lamar’s debut as a film producer alongside Parker and Stone. In 2023, it was further revealed that Trey Parker would also be directing the movie.
Despite the initial excitement, updates on the film have been scarce. It was originally scheduled for release on 4 July 2024, before being pushed to 20 March 2026. Now, the project has been postponed once more — and this time, no new release date has been provided.
A joint statement from Stone and Parker’s production company, Park County, and Lamar’s creative company, pgLang, confirmed the delay:
“It’s true — we’re moving (again). We’re working hard at finishing the movie.”
So far, virtually no details about the film have been made public, including its title or cast. The only confirmed aspect of the storyline is its provocative premise: the past and present collide when a young Black man, working as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum, discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once enslaved his own.
The latest postponement comes at a time when Lamar is riding high musically, having recently earned nine 2026 Grammy nominations for his sixth studio album, GNX, released last November.
