Nigerian singer and songwriter Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has achieved her first international certification as her hit single “Duduke” goes Gold in New Zealand.
The milestone was confirmed after the song surpassed 15,000 units sold, marking a significant global recognition for the Afropop star.
Released in 2022, Duduke captured hearts worldwide with its tender lyrics and emotional depth, symbolizing the rhythmic beat of a mother’s love for her unborn child. Simi famously showcased her baby bump in the music video, which quickly became an anthem for expectant mothers.
The song also inspired the viral #DudukeChallenge, where fans shared heartfelt interpretations and recreations of the track across social media.
Speaking in an earlier interview, Simi shared that many fans affectionately call her daughter, Adejare, “Duduke,” since she was the muse behind the song. While she doesn’t find it offensive, the singer noted that she prefers people to call her by her actual name.
With this Gold certification, Duduke continues to cement her reputation as one of Africa’s most soulful and influential voices in contemporary music.
