United States President Donald Trump has once again voiced strong condemnation over what he described as a “Christian genocide” taking place in Nigeria.
Speaking on a conservative radio program on Friday—comments later highlighted by Fox News—he claimed that thousands of Christians are being killed in Nigeria and accused the Nigerian government of failing to protect vulnerable communities from extremist violence.
Trump, who previously designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern over religious-freedom violations, reiterated his frustration, calling the situation “a disgrace” and warning that his administration may halt aid to the country.
“Nigeria is a disgrace. The whole thing is a disgrace,” Trump said. “They’re killing people by the thousands. It’s a genocide, and I’m really angry about it. And we give a lot of subsidies to Nigeria. We’re going to end up stopping.”
He further threatened potential military intervention if the Nigerian government fails to act decisively against Islamist militant groups responsible for attacks on Christian communities.
Trump’s remarks mark yet another escalation in his public criticism of Nigeria’s handling of religious violence, signaling that heavier diplomatic or military pressure may be forthcoming.
