Arsenal defender William Saliba has revealed the reason behind his decision to turn down a potential move to Real Madrid, despite interest from the Spanish giants.
The French international, who recently signed a new contract extension with the Gunners, said his priority is to win major trophies with Arsenal before considering a move elsewhere.
“Of course it’s really tempting when a club like that is interested in you,” Saliba told Telefoot. “But I wanted to win titles at Arsenal first before thinking about anything else.”
Saliba’s commitment comes as Arsenal continue their strong push for silverware under Mikel Arteta, with the North London club currently six points clear at the top of the Premier League after ten matches — a position that puts them in a promising spot to end their two-decade wait for a league title.
The 23-year-old has been instrumental in Arsenal’s defensive solidity, earning praise for his composure, athleticism, and leadership at the back. His comments further highlight his loyalty and belief in Arteta’s project at the Emirates.
